Proyecto PURPOL - Clades Composites

Clades Composites joins the PURPOL Project to recycle polyurethane waste, promoting sustainability.

Clades Composites—along with AIDIMME, IVACE, and other public organizations and private companies—has joined the innovative PURPOL project in an effort to address the management and recycling of plastic waste. This ambitious project’s main objective is to repurpose flexible polyurethane foams (PUFs) from disused mattresses, transforming them into high-quality adhesives for the furniture industry, thus contributing to a circular economy.

The accumulation of plastic waste in the environment represents a significant threat to ecosystems. Among the various types of plastic polluting our planet, flexible polyurethane foams, commonly used in products such as mattresses, are one of the main sources of waste. Huge quantities of mattresses are discarded annually, many of which end up in landfills or incinerators, taking up a large amount of space due to the foams’ porosity.

The PURPOL project focuses on the research and development of chemical and biological recycling methods that allow these PUFs to be transformed into high-quality polyols. These recycled polyols will be used in the formulation of adhesives, essential materials in furniture manufacturing. This process not only seeks to reduce the amount of waste generated but also promotes sustainability and minimizes the carbon footprint associated with the production of new materials.

Clades Composites’ mission is aligned with the project’s approach, uniting innovation and sustainability within the chemical industry. Our commitment to the environment motivates us to develop recycling processes that drive the circular economy.

With the collaboration of various entities and experts, the PURPOL project promises to be a transformative initiative that will benefit various industries in the Valencian Community, thus closing the production cycle effectively and responsibly. We are proud to be part of this project and to contribute to the development of sustainable solutions that help mitigate the environmental impact of polyurethane.

We invite you to follow our updates on PURPOL and other innovative projects on the Clades Composites blog. Together, we can create a more sustainable future.

The PURPOL project is supported by the Valencian Regional Ministry of Innovation, Trade and Tourism through IVACE (Valencian Institute of Innovation and Trade), and funded by the European Union through the Valencian Community FEDER Program 2021-2027.
