LIGHT FILLERS (LIGHTWEIGHT FILLER SYSTEM)

As a result of the work of the R+D department, Clades Composites has developed light mineral fillers (Lightweight Filler) that allow the manufacture of materials with reduced density, focused on all types of polymer matrix materials such as: shower trays, decorative panels, countertops, sinks, sanitary material, etc. A high percentage of recycled materials is included in our formulations, contributing to the circular economy and the development of eco-friendly products.

We work with a combination of materials with rigorous quality control, to which we carry out a chemical and thermal treatment that allows us to obtain a mineral load with the maximum guarantees of operation. Our laboratory ensures that each batch complies with the specifications of the material: particle size distribution, free humidity, control of possible impurities,…

We can develop fillers to obtain final densities from 1.6 kg/liter to 0.9 kg/liter, adjusting to the requirements of each application.

Our light filler integrates perfectly with all types of resins. Our personalized advice will help you select the right mineral filler, as well as the formula that best suits your installations and both technical and economic needs.

Given the increase in polymer matrix composites for various applications, our R+D+i department has developed specific and diverse mineral fillers depending on the customer’s requirements.

DOLOMITES

It is a mineral composed of calcium carbonate and magnesium. We design dolomitic formulations for use in polymer matrix composites, polymer concrete type or in applications such as countertops, shower trays, washbasins, sinks, irons, etc. It is also commonly used in the manufacture of paints, ceramics, plastic materials, adhesives, rubbers and rubbers, fertilizers and different industries such as the steel and glass industries.

Our dolomite meets the highest standards of purity, whiteness and moisture. They are one of the few on the market free of crystalline silica, making them safe to handle. We have different formulations to guarantee the needs of the customer.

Clades Composites advises the customer to select the appropriate particle size distribution for their production. We work with the highest quality and purity dolomite on the market.

ATH (ALUMINA TRIHYDRATE OR ALUMINUM HYDROXIDE)

Alumina trihydrates (ATH) are obtained by treating bauxite using the Bayer process.

Alumina trihydrate has properties as a flame retardant and smoke suppressant. Consequently, it is an indispensable material in products such as rubbers, polyurethanes, polyester, silicones, thermoplastics, cables, etc. when looking to improve fire resistance.

Due to its good chemical resistance and physical properties, alumina trihydrate is a basic raw material for the manufacture of  solid surface. Solid surface is a composite material widely used in sanitaryware, kitchen, hotels, hospitals, façade cladding and general construction.

ATH is also found in applications in the ceramic sector in the manufacture of glazes and pigments, as well as catalyst for chemical reactions.

We have the widest range of Alumina Trihydrates, with which we can cover the different needs of applications and processes:

    • Wide range of grain sizes ranging from 2 microns to 70 microns.
    • ATH-based formulations, such as AS55. With this formulation, we are able to improve the resistance to scratching and fouling of the solid surface.
    • The lowest number of black points on the market, widely valued in solid surface.
    • High chemical purity.
    • Different levels of translucency or whiteness.
    • Low levels of oil absorption.
    • Silanized ATHs for better integration with polymers.

Alumina monohydrates (boehmites), like trihydrates, have properties as flame retardants and smoke suppressants. Monohydrates are thermally stable above 300ºC, so they can be used in polymers or processes that require high temperatures. They can be partially substituted for magnesium hydroxide, ATH or phosphorus derivatives in polymer matrix, thermoplastic or polyolefin applications.

In combination with polymeric products, they offer excellent performance during the mixing process, very good compatibility with resins and can improve mechanical properties of the final products such as abrasion and scratching.

Given their high whiteness, together with their physical properties, they can be used to reduce the consumption of titanium dioxide in gel coat formulations, paints and pigment bases.

We have silanized materials for better integration with polymers.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT MINERAL FILLERS

Mineral fillers are materials that are added to resins to modify properties such as:

  • Weight.
  • Thixotropy and viscosity.
  • Cost.
  • Mechanical behavior.

They allow lighter parts to be manufactured while maintaining adequate structural properties.

They generally increase the viscosity of the resin, so formulations and ratios need to be adjusted.

In some cases they can affect the thixotropy of the mixture, which must be taken into account in production processes.
