High Scratch-Resistant Fillers: The Solution for Longer-Lasting Surfaces.
At Clades Composites, we continue to invest in innovation in materials that improve the performance of solid surface, especially in applications where wear and abrasion resistance is critical. Therefore, we are introducing two mineral fillers specially formulated to significantly increase the surface scratch resistance of parts.
ATH AS55: Scratch-Resistant ATH - Innovative Development.
The ATH AS55 filler has been developed to offer a hardness of 6 on the Mohs scale, similar to that of steel, far exceeding the typical resistance of standard solid surfaces (3.5 – 4.5). This improvement allows surfaces made with ATH AS55 to resist scratches, even from metal utensils, making it an ideal choice for kitchen countertops, laboratories, or any environment where abrasion is a constant challenge.
But its performance isn’t limited to hardness: its high transparency and neutral tone give it excellent translucency, achieving the highest quality ATH on the market. This allows for pieces with impeccable whiteness or, when working with pigments, vivid, sharp, and intense colors.
Regarding its integration into the formula, its density, similar to that of conventional ATH, allows it to be used both as a main filler and in mixtures, with virtually no change in the weight of the final pieces. Furthermore, it is a product free of substances hazardous to both people and the environment. It has no ions that interfere with catalysis and very high chemical and thermal stability, ensuring reliable performance throughout the product’s entire lifecycle.
It requires no tools or special conditions, and its cost is very competitive, comparable to that of traditional ATH, which allows for improved properties of the manufactured material without increasing production costs. It is definitely an option to consider if you are looking to take a leap forward in the quality and durability of your pieces. ATH AS55 ANTI-SCRATCH DEMONSTRATION: The video shows a comparative test between a Solid Surface slab made with ATH AS55 and one made with conventional ATH. Thanks to the hardness of ATH AS55—harder than a coin—rubbing the coin on the surface does not produce a permanent scratch. The mark left behind is superficial, similar to that of a pencil, and is easily removed with a scouring pad, leaving the surface as good as new.
On the Solid Surface slab made with standard ATH, however, the coin is harder than the material itself. This means that if pressure is applied, the surface is easily scratched, affecting its appearance and making it difficult to recover.
Hematite 70: Dark Solid Surface without Marks or Scratches.
A common challenge with dark-toned solid surfaces is the ease with which scratches become visible. These small marks not only compromise the aesthetics of the finish but can also affect its long-term strength and performance. Therefore, the search for a material that offers durability has become a priority within the industry.
For those looking to manufacture solid surfaces in black tones that maintain their appearance and strength over time, we have our Hematite 70. This filler has a Mohs hardness of 6, which, unlike other black fillers, maintains its color and surface intact against scratches, chemicals, high temperatures, or hydrolysis processes, ensuring the integrity and aesthetics of the piece over time.
Hematite 70 has been on the market for several years and has been successfully incorporated into major manufacturers in the sector.

A Commitment to Quality and Innovation.
At Clades Composites, we know that the performance of solid surfaces depends as much on their formulation as on the materials used. That’s why our highly scratch-resistant fillers are essential for creating more durable, functional, and aesthetically impeccable surfaces.
